During IMTS 2016, at the Smartforce Student Summit Build It! Challenge, sponsored by WARDJet, experienced mechatronics student teams competed against industry professionals in WARDJet’s waterjet cutting machine build-off competition for a chance to win a waterjet. Over the course of the show, many school teams assembled the WARDKit 5x5 waterjet six times and several professional teams put together the E-1515 waterjet five times. The 167 participants worked with waterjet experts as part of an hour-long session of planning, wiring, wrenching, and assembling a complete, high-end waterjet system. As the waterjet machines were completed over the course of IMTS, WARDJet’s experts judged and scored the machines based on assembly precision, mechanical and electrical skills, overall build quality, and machine motion.
WARDJet founder and owner, Rich Ward enthusiastically announced the winners: Missouri University of Science and Technology machining lab led by Jeff Heniff and John Mullett of Laureate Machine and Automation. All waterjets need a pump and IMTS exhibitor and WARDJet partner, Hypertherm provided the HyPrecision™ 30 pump and is included in the prize for Missouri University of Science and Technology.
